Losing a tooth is an unfortunate necessity in some cases. Missing teeth can affect your language and your ability to chew, and cause destructive changes to your bite. Once you find yourself in this position, we will discuss with you your options for replacing one or more teeth.
Dental implants can be used as replacement for a single missing tooth or in cases where there are multiple missing teeth. Many factors are considered when advising on dental implant treatment, including your general and oral health, the duration a tooth has been missing, and available jaw bone to support the implant.
Gum disease and gum recession can restrict the success of implants, as do conditions like diabetes. If this is a consideration for you, we would work together implementing a protocol of oral health care that addresses these issues before commencing with dental implant treatment.
When developing a plan for you, we will use our most advanced technology to create 3-D images to determine if your jaw is suited to implant treatment. In situations where the jawbone is not adequate, a bone graft may be necessary.
Even if the placement process is daunting for some patients, with the experienced care at Happy Smiles Dental, we provide the confidence that dental implant treatment is a relatively simple - and even painless - procedure.
When considering options, it may be appropriate to present more traditional restorative treatments such as bridges and dentures. It is our policy to provide choice to our patients and support their decisions, which is why we take time to explain the benefits and drawbacks of each treatment relative to dental implants, including the risks, ongoing maintenance requirements, and appearance.
