A dental crown replaces the outer layer of a tooth. It acts like a helmet to protect and maintain a tooth weakened by tooth decay, bulky fillings, fractures or root canals. In some cases, multiple crowns can be used to replace worn teeth and restore them to a healthy bite.

What is the procedure for the crowns?

Crowns require two appointments. During the first appointment, all visible tooth surfaces are shaved to make room for the crown. A digital impression of the tooth is taken and sent to our dental lab for crown construction. A provisional crown is placed until the real crown can be inserted. At your next appointment in one to two weeks, the crown will be cemented to the tooth.

If you are missing teeth, the teeth can be crowned on either side of the space and a bridge can be added to preserve the appearance of teeth where there are none.

Porcelain crowns

Crowns are often made of porcelain or porcelain fused to metal and can be matched in color and shade to surrounding teeth. Once inserted, they look like natural teeth and require just as much care.

Porcelain crown is usually recommended when the tooth is cracked, heavily filled, or has had root canal treatment in the past. Crown provides resistance to breakage from chewing forces at the same time restoring tooth’s ideal shape, color and smoothness.

We use skilled local ceramists and the highest quality TGA approved materials to create beautiful porcelain crowns that look like your natural teeth.
